Restaurant CRU Review

0

Restaurant CRU caught my eye on the list of featured restaurants by Tallinn Restaurant Week, so I decided to try their lunch offer. Keep reading if you’re interested in my opinion about the food, service and overall experience in this restaurant.

Restaurant CRU Design

Restaurant CRU aims to find the perfect balance between the classic and modern kitchen, by reflecting on the historic surroundings of Tallinn Old Town. The two inner halls have been renovated, but kept to the original design of the building from the 15th century, which creates an authentic Late Medieval atmosphere.

I really enjoyed the cosiness I felt when I entered the restaurant. The high ceilings made everything seem spacious, the walls gave it a vintage feeling and the chandeliers were the perfect choice to bring the whole design together. The first impression was definitely great.

If there is one thing to comment on, I’d say that the tables were too close to each other. There was no intimacy and I felt I had to whisper so that I won’t disturb the people next to us, or to spare them the details of my conversation.

Restaurant CRU Service

The service in Restaurant CRU was absolutely impeccable. The waiters and waitresses were always smiling, they spoke several languages and they truly cared about their customers’ experience. Hands down, one of the best restaurant services I’ve experienced in Tallinn.

Restaurant CRU Food

The lunch menu included two courses and during Tallinn Restaurant Week it was priced at 15 EUR. Here’s what we ate:

  • CHANTERELLE
    • Chanterelle soup and grilled cheese

Chanterelle soup

  • ELK SAUSAGE
    • Pan-fried elk sausage, smoked kohlrabi, cabbage and rosemary sauce with dried lingonberries.

Restaurant Elk sausage

Both dishes were delicious, but I particularly enjoyed the Chanterelle soup. Its foamy consistency in combination with the grilled cheese was very interesting. The elk sausage looked stunning and it was also tasty, but a little bit dry.

Initially, I was sure I will try one of their desserts. However, after the second course my stomach made it clear there is no room left for sweets.

Overall experience

All in all, I was very impressed with Restaurant CRU, from its unique design, to fantastic food and friendly staff. I definitely recommend this place and I will certainly come back to try one of those desserts I missed this time.
